Match the staff role to responsibility
A personal attendant can support wardrobe care, packing and practical errands, while a male helper may focus on laundry, serving and household upkeep. These roles can overlap only when the actual duties are agreed. Medical supervision, nursing and specialist care are separate requirements and should not be assumed.
For drivers, describe regular destinations, vehicle type and any trips beyond the twin cities. Discuss licence and reference checks and agree who authorises use of the vehicle. A family driver should receive a clear schedule and a procedure for changes, rather than competing last-minute instructions from several people.
Set a household handover standard
Explain key handling, purchases and reporting before work begins. A short written handover can record what has been completed, any supplies needed and changes for the next day. Keep private household information limited to what the person needs to carry out the role.
When comparing live-in and live-out options, include accommodation, travel, rest and leave in the conversation. A lower quoted salary alone does not show which arrangement is workable. Confirm the agreed salary, placement fee and replacement conditions in writing, then review the first week against the duties originally discussed.
