First-week onboarding checklist for a new office boy
A new office boy needs more than a tour. Explain the routine, approval limits, restricted areas and who can assign work before expecting independent support.

Start with people and boundaries
Introduce the supervisor, backup contact and the colleagues the worker will regularly assist. Show public, staff-only and restricted areas. Explain who may approve access or purchases and how unexpected visitors are handled. Keep instructions consistent so the person does not have to choose between conflicting requests from several managers.
Demonstrate the daily sequence
Walk through opening duties, pantry use, refreshment times and closing tasks. Demonstrate appliances and storage rather than assuming previous experience with the same equipment. Provide a short written or verbal checklist in a language the worker understands. Ask them to repeat the sequence in their own words to identify unclear instructions.
Practise one complete handover
Use an ordinary task such as receiving supplies or preparing a meeting room. Explain what a completed task looks like and where any record belongs. Show the process for reporting damage, missing items or an unexpected delay. Early questions should be welcome; a worker who guesses silently may create avoidable errors.
Review with specific examples
At the end of the first week, compare the agreed duties with what actually happened. Discuss tasks that took longer, unfamiliar equipment and requests outside the original brief. Agree adjustments together and document important changes. If there is a placement concern, contact Staffly promptly with factual details and refer to the written support terms.
A practical example to adapt
A first-week review can use three prompts: which instructions were unclear, which tasks regularly overlapped, and which supplies or permissions were missing? Record an agreed action for each issue and identify who will provide it. For example, the administrator might arrange a labelled supply cupboard or give the worker access to the meeting schedule. This turns feedback into a practical adjustment instead of simply asking the new person to work faster.
