A driver is the household hire with the most at stake: a vehicle worth more than they will earn in years, your children on the school run, and your own safety in traffic. It is also the role where people check the least, usually because the candidate arrives holding a licence and that feels like enough. It isn't.
What a driver costs in Rawalpindi

Check the expiry date, not just the card
An expired licence gives you no protection if there is an accident, and expired licences are extremely common. Photograph both sides and check the class and the date.
A driving test that tests something
- In your own vehicle, not theirs
- On a busy road: Murree Road, Peshawar Road or the Expressway at a moderate hour
- Include reversing and parking, where most household damage actually happens
- Sit in the back for part of it; habits change when the employer isn't watching
- If children will ride, do one run on the real school route at the real time
Fuel, and the arguments it causes
Fuel disputes are the most common ongoing friction with drivers, and they are almost always a systems problem. Agree on day one: a simple trip log with odometer readings, and either fuel by receipt or a fixed monthly allowance. Mixing the two is what causes arguments.
