The real difference
A home nurse is a registered medical professional: injections, IV drips, wound dressing, medication management. This work requires Pakistan Nursing Council registration, and doing it without proper training carries real risk. A patient attendant provides non-medical support: feeding, bathing, mobility assistance, companionship, overnight watch. No nursing qualification is required, but the role still demands real reliability and often physical stamina.
Why home nursing pays more than many people expect
A private home placement pays a direct household rate rather than a hospital pay scale, and demand for reliable home nurses regularly outstrips supply in most Pakistani cities. Patient attendant work pays less than nursing but is genuinely more accessible if you don't hold a nursing qualification.
If you're a registered nurse
- Keep your PNC registration certificate ready to show, families increasingly ask to see it directly rather than just hear about it
- Be clear about the shift patterns you can actually do, day, night, 24-hour live-in, or alternating cover
- Hospital experience is a genuine advantage, name the type of ward or unit specifically
If you're building toward patient attendant work
- Basic first-aid training, even informal, is worth mentioning specifically
- Physical stamina for lifting and mobility support is a real requirement, be honest about it
- Previous experience with elderly care or post-operative recovery, even informal or family-based, is worth including
What families and facilities actually check
For nurses: registration number, verified rather than just claimed. For both roles: previous placements, references, and often a medical fitness certificate given the physical nature of the work. Being upfront about your actual scope, rather than stretching a patient attendant background into a nursing claim, protects you from a placement that goes wrong on day one.
